I’m Michael Käppi, a UX designer who’s worn many creative hats—illustrator, art director, and now, AI explorer.
Since early 2023, I’ve been diving headfirst into the world of generative AI. Stimulus is where I document that leap—an evolving portfolio that captures how AI tools keep changing the game for me in art, sound, and video.

The moment of discovery

It was late on a Friday night, and like all great stories, it started by accident. What began as simple curiosity with AI tools turned into a creative revolution. By the next morning, I was hooked—feeling like I’d stumbled into a new era of creation. It wasn’t just about speed or precision, but about the sheer joy of discovery. AI wasn’t just a tool anymore; it became a collaborator.”

What drives me

The allure of GenAI is the freedom it provides—the kind of freedom that lets you experiment with styles and ideas in mere minutes. It’s a creative rush, where anything feels possible. Whether it’s composing music or crafting visuals, AI gives me the ability to be the director of my creative chaos, helping turn flashes of inspiration into tangible results.

My journey so far

I come from a background that straddles the worlds of traditional art and technology. I’ve been an early adopter of digital tools since the late ‘80s, witnessing firsthand the shift from analog to digital. Whether airbrushing physical art or developing photos in a darkroom, I’ve always been immersed in creative processes.

Fast forward to today, and I’m rediscovering the fundamentals of art through the lens of AI—pushing boundaries in visual art, sound, and video in ways that constantly challenge and inspire me. My knowledge of art history, styles, and techniques is now amplified by AI, enabling me to create in hours what once took weeks.
